No, the Sutter County website is designed to support the most common browsers.
However, using the most current browsers will offer a richer browsing experience and
provide capabilities to use some of the advanced features on this website.
For complete capabilities, we recommend viewing the site with Internet Explorer 5.5
or later, or Netscape Navigator 7 or later with both
cookies and
javascript enabled.
Note, though, that all content is accessible without advanced feature support.
Collapsible panels are implemented on a web page to allow for the raising or lowering (hiding or
showing) of a section of information similar to raising and lowering a projection screen.
On the Sutter County website by clicking the section tabs in the left or right margins, such
as the
Main Menu or
Board of Supervisors tabs, the text and links either will be shown
or hidden depending upon its current state. The questions on this FAQ page are also an
implementation of collapsible panels.
Javascript must be enabled for collapsible panels to function. Additionally, cookies must be
enabled in order to remember the last collapsible state for a given panel. This feature will
not function on older browsers such as Netscape 4 or earlier. For more information
on cookies and Javascript, see the appropriate sections below.
Cookies are small bits of information that are saved on your computer by web sites in order
keep track of visitor information. Potential uses of cookies include online shopping carts,
custom content, and targeted advertising.
The Sutter County website uses cookies to remember the state of the collapsing panels in the left
and right margins (for IE5+ and NN7).
If cookies are disabled, all menus and lists will be fully extended and not collapsible.
Sutter County does not collect nor store any personal visitor information in these cookies.
To learn more about cookies in general, visit the
W3C, "The World Wide Web Consortium", and search on the word "cookie".
Developed by Netscape, Javascript is a script language that runs on the web browser and
is a kind of extension to HTML.
Javascript makes a website more immediately interactive, that is, interactive without having to
submit every user action to the server in order for a web page to be redisplayed.
The Sutter County website mainly implements Javascript for the collapsible panels in the left
and right margins as well as capturing mouse clicks for some page functions such as opening the
calendar window. Javascript is also used on the forms, such as the feedback form, to enforce
required fields as well as validate any entered data for correct format. By having Javascript
enabled, a visitor to our website can more efficiently access desired content as well as
receiving a more pleasant presentation and experience.
Javascript is generally safe with some risk when visiting suspicious or untrusted websites.
If you want to be cautious, you could temporarily disable Javascript before visiting suspicious sites.
Be sure to download and install the latest version of your web browser and any security
patches and updates that are available for your particular browser.
Sutter County does not use Javascript to covertly collect any personal visitor information or violate
a visitor's privacy. Javascript is utilized on this website benignly to effectuate a pleasant
user experience only.
At the top of the right hand margin is the printer image. By clicking this image the main
content for the web page without any of the adjoining page margin text and graphics will be
displayed in a separate browser window.
Most common browsers will have a printer toolbar
button or a
Print item under the
File menu. Select the
Print button
or menu item to print the main content for the page.
When finished printing the page, you can close the printer friendly window by selecting the
File
menu item and then the
Close submenu item.
A special note for Opera users: Be sure that in your browser preferences you have enabled
the
Open windows in Opera workspace option under the
Windows preferences section.
Since Sutter County does not allow the relaying of email through its servers, the
county's website does not have a direct facility to email a web page to a friend as
can be seen on some other websites.
However, most common browsers allow a user to send via email a web page link or the html content to a
friend or other recipient. Simply select the appropriate
Send item under the
File menu on the browser. Additional information on how to use the
Send
facility can be found in the browser's help system.
