  • What is the West Nile Virus?


    A Mosquito-borne virus commonly found in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The West Nile Virus has been found in the United States as well. It is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. The mosquito acquires the infection by feeding on an infected bird with the virus in its blood.
     

  • Where can I get information about lead?


    You can call the Sutter County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at (530) 822-7215 with any questions relating to lead poisoning.
     

  • Where can I get my child immunized?


    Call Public Health Immunization at 822-7215. This is a free service for Sutter County Residents.
     

  • Where can I go to get Family Planning Services?


    The medical clinic participates in the Planning Access Care and Treatment (PACT), a pregnancy prevention program. Contact the medical clinic at (530) 822-7240 for more information. There are several community agencies that provide Family Planning Services, such as a Woman's Friend at (530) 741-0556.
     

  • Who do I call if I think I have food poisoning from a restaurant or local event?

  • Who's at risk for WNV?


    People over 50 have a higher chance of getting sick when infected with WNV. Being outside: the more time you spend outside, the greater the chance you have of being bitten by an infected mosquito.

    Protect yourself by taking the following precautions:
    • Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property because standing water provides a place for mosquitoes to develop
    • Avoid spending time outside when mosquitoes are most active, especially at dawn and dusk
    • Use DEET insect repellent according to label instructions
    • Contact your local mosquito vector control agency if there is a significant mosquito problem where you live or work
