Precinct Officer General Information
Voting in Sutter County precincts is conducted by qualified Precinct Officers
(Inspectors and Clerks) who are appointed by the Sutter County
Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters.
Precinct Officers are responsible for conducting the voting in strict accordance
with the voting laws of the State of California

Precinct Officer Application

provided on the form and our office will contact you, by telephone or mail, when we need
Precinct Officers in your area.

A Precinct Officer must:
- Be at least 18 years or older
- Be a registered voter in County of Sutter
- Read and write English

Work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until all duties are completed
(approximately 9:30 p.m.)
- Attend two mandatory training classes, per election
- Have transportation
If you are not registered to vote, you will need to fill out an affidavit of registration
before you can apply to be appointed as a Precinct Officer.

The duties of Precinct Officers (Inspectors & Clerks) include:
- Prepare, open and close the polling place location
- Locate voter names on the roster
- Issue to and receive from the voters, an activator card
- Assist voters in any phase of the voting process

Perform all required duties assigned by the Registrar of Voters or Precinct
Inspector
In addition, the Inspector must:
- Be in charge of a polling place and its Precinct Board on election day
- Assign duties to Clerks on election day

Accept and check election supplies and availability of polling place before
election day

Inspectors:
- $85 for the day
- $5 for attending each training class
- $0.48 per mile for returning supplies
Clerks:
- $70 for the day
- $5 for attending each training class
